What Do You Pray for Your Children?

The following are the prayers that my husband and I pray for our children and their spouses, our grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and generations to come. We pray personally by name for each one. We do not pray for every one of these requests every day but pray for different ones each day as the Holy Spirit directs.

I have printed out the following for myself, covered with plastic. Many times, I like to lay it upon my heart as I am praying for our children so God can see the longings and requests I have for each one as we bring their names before Him in prayer.

You may like to also copy and print this out to have as a guide in praying for your children. You won’t be able to pray all these Scriptures over your children each day, but choose a different point each day. Pray the Scriptures OUT LOUD before the Lord. This is a very powerful way to pray for your children.

"Oh God, hear our cry for our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the children who are yet to be born. We pray . . .

1. That they will have a real born-again experience and come to know God personally

John 3:3: “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say not thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

2 Timothy 3:15: “And from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

Revelation 3:20: “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

2. That they will have soft and tender hearts to hear and obey the voice of the Lord.

1 Samuel 3:10: “And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, speak; for thy servant heareth.”

Isaiah 57:15: “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”

Isaiah 66:2: “For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”

4. That they will love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength

10. That they will hate the spirit of this world and not give in to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life

1 John 2:15-17: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”

12. That they will shine as lights in this dark and deceived world

Jeremiah 15:19: “Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then I will bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.”

14. That they will seek God with all their hearts

17. That their faith will not fail

Luke 22:32: “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”

18. That God will pour out His Holy Spirit upon them mightily

Isaiah 44:3, 4: “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground; I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thy offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.”

Acts 2:16-18: “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; And on my servants and on my  handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:”

19. That they will become laborers in God's harvest field

Matthew 9:37-38: “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.”

20. That they will keep themselves pure and holy (body, soul, and spirit) for the man/woman that God has chosen for them.

Romans 6:12-13: “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your member as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”

1 Corinthians 6:15-20: “Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? Know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

1 Thessalonians 4:3-4: “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication. That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor;”

21. That God will even now prepare for them a godly wife/husband who will be committed and faithful to the marriage to the end of their lives

2 Corinthians 6:14-18: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

22. That they will love and embrace children and establish a godly home

Genesis 1:28: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

Deuteronomy 7:13: “And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.”

Psalm 127:3-5: “Lo, children are the heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that has aquiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”

Psalm 128:3: “Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.”

Malachi 2:15: “And did he not make one? . . . And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.”

That God will keep them from accident, harm, sickness, danger, and all enemy attack--physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually (Psalm 91). Amen."
