ChristInYou

I’d love to share with you another thought from this book I am currently reading “The Day Christ Died.” Giving a picture of Jerusalem the author states: ‘The temple was gleaming and resplendent, as always; it required no special cleaning because, daily it was served by seven thousand priests and hundreds of Levites, and dust was not permitted to collect even on the huge sold-gold cluster of grapes on the east wall.”

The temple was where God dwelt in His shekinah glory in the Holy of Holies. They dared not allow it to become tarnished, dirty, or dusty. However, there is no temple in Jerusalem today. It was destroyed in AD 70 by the Roman General Titus and his army. God has now chosen to dwell in our hearts by His Holy Spirit. We are now the temples of the living God.

1 Corinthians 6:19, 20 says: “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are god’s.”

The Greek word for temple is “naos” which is not the word for the temple but for the Holy of Holies in the temple, the place where God dwelt. He has now chosen us to be His Holy of Holies. That is just too amazing to take in! That God would choose to dwell in us! And He wants to dwell in our homes too. He is a dwelling God.

Therefore, we have the awesome responsibility to keep our lives clean from all the dirt of sin and impurity. He wants to purify our souls and our homes. He wants us to keep our homes clean and organized because He wants to dwell in them.

Let’s prepare our lives and our homes to be His dwelling places.
