HalfMast

I am looking out my window at the big flag on our front lawn. It’s flying at half mast. Along with millions of others we grieve for the loss of a mighty warrior for God. It is so hard to understand, and we are tempted to ask why. And yet we dare not. We will never know the answers to all our “why’s and if we knew the answers we would be like God Himself. He is God and we are called to trust Him.

Trust Him when dark days assail thee,
Trust Him when thy faith is small,
Trust Him when to trust Him
Is the hardest thing of all.

But we all sorrow and God understands our sorrows. And we pray. How we are praying for his beautiful wife and children and loved ones. And for God to do mighty and miraculous things beyond what we could ever ask or think. We are praying that the anointing of Charlie Kirk and his passion and boldness for truth will be multiplied in thousands of young men and women all over this nation and the world. May this tragedy spearhead a mighty revival, especially in our colleges where there is such deception and wokeness.

As I think of the life of Charlie, I think of a great man of God who was also “sold out” to God. Did you ever hear of C. T. Studd? He was one of England’s greatest cricketers. He also inherited a fortune from his wealthy family. But he gave it all away, fame and fortune, to give his life to serve the Lord in China. Here is the one who wrote the lines:

Only one life, twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last!

Although Charlie only lived a short life, he impacted the world more than millions who have lived long lives. And all that he did will last for eternity because he lived for Christ, not for himself. May his life inspire a new level of discipleship in us all.

I read Luke 14:26, 27, 33 this morning and was challenged to the core: “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, HE CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE . . . So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, HE CANNOT BE MY DISCIPLE.”

C. T. Studd wrote a little book called THE CHOCOLATE SOLDIER. He had no time for chocolate soldiers who give up when the going gets tough or melt when the heat comes on. He wrote these lines:

For genuine soldiers are heroes
Chocolate soldiers are shams,
The soldiers of Jesus are lions,
Not hares or timid lambs!

He also wrote: “Difficulties, dangers, disease, death, or divisions don't deter any but Chocolates from executing God's will. When someone says there's a lion in the way, the real Christian promptly replies, ‘That's hardly enough inducement for me. I want a bear or two besides to make it worth my while to go.’” It sounds like the same spirit that was upon Charlie Kirk.

And so as we grieve, we also pray. We pray for a new caliber of bold lions to rise up in this nation and across the world. Charlie has led the way. May millions follow.
Thoughts from Nancy Campbell

“We must all have the spirit of martyrdom, though we may not all die martyrs.”
~ George Whitefield
