Can God Provide? | Can God Forsake His People?

CAN GOD FORSAKE HIS PEOPLE?

"Ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls,
that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spake concerning you;
all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof"
(Joshua 23:14).

Many parents feel the responsibility of providing for another mouth to feed and therefore don't want to have more children. However, when we hold this attitude we confess that we trust in our own ability to provide rather than in God's provision. David confessed, "I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread" (Psalm 37:25). When God gives a baby, He always provides. He doesn't provide BEFORE the baby comes, but WHEN the baby comes!

Dear mother, God has promised that He will never fail us. Psalm 37:28 says, "For the Lord loves justice; He will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off." Did you notice those words, "THE LORD WILL NOT FORSAKE HIS SAINTS."? The New Living Translation says, "For the Lord loves justice, and HE WILL NEVER ABANDON THE GODLY. He will keep them safe forever." Could you forget your nursing baby? Never. And yet God says that it is possible that a mother may forget her suckling child (even though it is highly unlikely), but He will never forget you (Isaiah 49:15).

Psalm 9:10 says, "They that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee." Another promise that He will nor forsake us! But, who are the ones who trust the Lord? Those who know His name. The more we know the Lord, the more we will trust Him. The more we trust Him, the more we prove that He will never forsake us.

However, the challenge is to know the Lord, isn't it? To say that we cannot trust God to provide for another baby He has planned for us is to say that we don't know the Lord. For if we know Him, we'll know that He will provide.

It's a little like Jesus' words to His disciple, Philip. Jesus said to him in John 14:9, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known me, Phillip?" How long since we came to Christ? How many years have we walked with the Lord? And yet, do we still not know that He can be trusted? Do we not know Him enough to know that if He gives us a baby, He will provide for His child?

Hebrews 13:5-6 says, "BE CONTENT WITH SUCH THINGS AS YE HAVE: for he hath said, I WILL NEVER LEAVE THEE, NOR FORSAKE THEE. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, I will not fear what man shall do unto me." Another promise that He will never forsake us.

In the Greek text, there are three negatives before the word "forsake," stating a triple assurance. It should literally read, "I WILL NOT, I WILL NOT, I WILL NOT let thee down, leave thee in the lurch, leave thee destitute, leave thee in straits and helpless, abandon thee." The New Living Translation says, "Don't love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, 'I WILL NEVER FAIL YOU. I WILL NEVER ABANDON YOU.'"

1 Kings 6:13 says, "I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel." God is a dwelling God who wants to live in your heart and your home. How can He forsake you when He lives in you? That would be impossible!

1 Chronicles 28:20 says, "Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God... will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord." This was David's encouragement to his son, Solomon as he built the house for God. You are building a house for God as you bring children into the world. This is how you build a home.

Ruth 4:11 says, "And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said... The Lord make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel." Rachel and Leah didn't build with hammer and saw. They built the house of Israel by bringing forth children from the womb.

God promises that He will NOT FORSAKE US until we FINISH building the house. It is sad that many couples stop child-bearing before they get to the finishing line. Some are nearly at the end of the finishing line and they decide to stop! But, God has promised He will be with us to the end! And that means until the end of our child-bearing years or whenever God stops giving us children. He is the one who has the plan!

Have you got the message? God will NEVER abandon you! Read these Scriptures, too: Deuteronomy 4:31; 31:6, 8; 1 Kings 6:13; Psalm 94:14; 1 Samuel 12:22 and Isaiah 41:17.

Even after reading these wonderful promises you may still have some "ifs and buts." We can be so full of doubts, can't we? However,  before you express them, check out this article which is filled with more revelation and promises, "Is God Able to Provide for Another baby?"
